Güneş Evrim Yılmaz is a Berlin-based artist and industrial designer originally from Turkey. Working across handmade paper, pigments, organic residue, and self-developed material processes, her practice investigates accumulation, transformation, memory, and social trace through surface-based and spatial works.
For more than 15 years, Yılmaz has explored papermaking as an experimental and evolving material system, developing original processes that extend the medium into sculptural, participatory, and installation-based forms. Her work often emerges through gathering, embedding, layering, staining, and sedimentation, transforming discarded and organic materials into tactile structures that carry traces of contact, time, and environment.
In 2018, she initiated Turkish Coffee Marbling, a process using coffee residue as pigment and reactive surface material, drawing from the cultural rituals of coffee, conversation, and fortune reading. More recently, her research has expanded into large-scale paper installations and experimental forming techniques including Aerosynaptic Forming, in which paper pulp is shaped through turbulent airflow to create complex dual-sided surfaces.
Yılmaz is the founder of Sukurusu Project Space in Berlin and currently serves as Vice President of the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA). Her work has been presented internationally, including at the Shanghai International Paper Art Biennial, the IAPMA Congress Dresden, and exhibitions and collections across 52 countries.
Through material-driven processes, Yılmaz develops works that move between object, surface, and installation, examining how materials absorb, conceal, and transmit human presence over time.
